The Calling of Limbs For U

Few people become driven to help solve a particular problem. Few people decide to solve a specific problem occurring in countries other than their own. Yet, Rick Toms is one of those people.

Beneath his unassuming nature lies a passion for helping those without limbs. Some of the people the organization he founded, Limbs For U helps are without limbs due to birth defects and accidents. Others are civil war survivors in countries where for years controlling rebels left children, women, and men without limbs.

Listening to Rick explain how he stepped into this calling is inspiring. Simultaneously, the conditions he describes that he found in the Dominican Republic, and Sierra Leone remind us how small the world really is, and makes us think about our roles as global citizens. From an entrepreneur to humanitarian, Rick Toms demonstrates how one man with the help of others can make a positive difference anywhere in the world.

LUNCHEON FOR LIFE FUNDRAISER... OUR FUNDRAISING EVENT

posted Jul 12, 2014, 9:29 AM by Richard Toms   [ updated Jul 12, 2014, 1:15 PM ]

Last year, on Thursday, June 4, 2013 we did our first fledging fundraising luncheon at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Seattle. It was a great event.

The event went well, our volunteer efforts paid off because we filled the room and the food was great.  Then we introduced our guest speaker, Mrs. Regina Tisdale, wife of the late great Wayman L. Tisdale and chairperson for the Wayman L. Tisdale Foundation, Inc.

It was also great to have our sponsors Gemini Advertising, All City Fence Co., Universal Wap, Hanger, Northwest Center, and Apex Media all pitch in.

...and more great events are planned. We could use your help letting people know about us, by joining our newsletter, and working with us to drive more support for our global limb-supplying initiatives.

Richard Toms’ new baby is taking its first step and he’s as happy as the father of an infant nonprofit can be. His latest venture, Limbs For U, doesn’t have a staff, or an office, yet, but it does have potential for transforming lives.

“In my life, I’ve done a lot of things,” Toms said, “but this is a passion.” Until now, his entrepreneurship has been about making money, but this time he says he has a different mission…
